The researchers gave a large dose of reishi extracts [GLE] to two groups of male mice for 40 days. There were also 2 control groups: 1 received only water and the other received sildenphenyl, which is the active compound in Viagra.
If the rats were adult humans, they would have taken 1500-1800 mg of reishi extracts daily.
6% triterpenes were used in the Reishi supplement.
On several occasions during the 40-day period, the researchers placed the female aphrodisiac in the cage of the test animals. If the test animals had received sage extracts, they were more sexually active.
The lowest Reishi dose (± 1500 mg p / day @ 6% triterpenes) was the most effective. Therefore, the optimal dose may also be lower than the lowest dose tested by the researchers.
When the 40-day period ended, the researchers measured the rat’s testosterone concentration in the blood. Test animals had higher testosterone levels than those receiving sage extracts.
The researchers suspect that the increased testosterone concentration is due to Reishi’s sexual effects and is caused by substances like the steroids in Reishi, such as ganoderic acid, part of the triterpene fraction.
This study appears to be in conflict with a previous study in which antiandrogenic effects were found. Alcohol-extracted sage inhibited prostate development by inhibiting 5A-reductase activity in a dose-dependent manner.
